ClamWinPortableDBUpdate

You can tweak some of the parameters used by ClamWinPortableDBUpdate. To do this, you must follow the procedure below:

  1. Delete the ClamWinPortableDBUpdate.ini file found in the folder that contains the ClamWinPortableDBUpdate.exe.
  2. Start ClamWinPortableDBUpdate.
  3. You will see a dialog box that asks you if you want to edit the newly created ini file. Click on Yes.
  4. ClamWinPortableDBUpdate.ini should open in your default text editor with default values. At this point you can change the parameters listed below.
  5. When you are done editing ClamWinPortableDBUpdate.ini, save the file and close the editor.

Program execution will continue using the new values.

The parameters that you are allowed to configure are:

updateperiod
The minimum number of hours permitted between updates. In other words, if you set this to 0.5, no matter how many times you call ClamWinPortableDBUpdate in a half hour period, it won't let you update virus definitions for 30 minutes after the first update. This is useful if you want to protect your network from an over-enthusiastic or paranoid updater. Set this to 0 (zero) to disable. Default is zero.

delayclose
The number of seconds the update window is left onscreen after an update is finished. Default is 5.

checkconnection
Enables checking of the connection prior to download attempts. Set to 1 to check before downloading, set to 0 to disable checking. Default is 1.

dbaddr
The address from which to download virus definition databases. You really shouldn't change this unless you know what you are doing. For more information have a look at the ClamWin documentation for freshclam.exe . At the present time, only one database mirror is allowed. Default is database.clamav.net.

maxattempts
The number of times to try downloading an update before giving up. Again, you probably shouldn't change this unless you know what you are doing. For more information have a look at the ClamWin documentation for freshclam.exe . Default is 3.

clampath
The relative path to the folder that contains ClamWinPortable.exe. If you have installed ClamWinPortable into something other than the default folder or if you want to place ClamWinPortableDBUpdate in a different place, specify the appropriate path here. Default is ..\ClamWinPortable.

Do not move the variables out of their respective sections (the labels bounded in square brackets) or change the section labels in any way!

If you really mess up the ClamWinPortableDBUpdate.ini file, just delete it and run ClamWinPortableDBUpdate again. When you run ClamWinPortableDBUpdate, it will make a fresh, new ClamWinPortableDBUpdate.ini file and then give you the opportunity to edit it.
